Should you buy a franchise (Part I)?
This is the first of a couple blogs about buying a franchise. I have always been skeptical about franchises, first and foremost because a number of people who come to my executive and business coach training programs come from business coaching franchises where they felt ripped off. Also, my bias is that buying a franchise is like buying a job, and most smart people can start a company without locking themselves into high fees and monthly royalties. Then they can build that company into their own franchise!
Nevertheless, the two cases you are about to read contradict my biases. These are experienced, smart, entrepreneurial people who have done their research and know what they are doing. They have helped me adjust my own views about when a franchise makes sense and when it doesn't.
